What do our Specialist Education Advisors offer?

Education Advice

Our education team work collaboratively with education providers (nurseries, schools and colleges), Local Authorities and  wider multidisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, co-ordinate, monitor, evaluate and review the education pathways and services required to meet a child / young person’s needs from the age of 2 years to 25 years.

We consider all aspects of the child’s development relating to key categories of need:
  • Cognition and Learning
  • Communication and Interaction
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health
  • Physical and sensory
The key responsibilities of a Special Education Advisor are:
  • To assess and evaluate the child / young person’s needs and make recommendations
  • To work with the client / client’s family to agree the focus of  input e.g improve EHCP / find the right school
  • To facilitate the drafting / redrafting of Education, Health and Care Plans to ensure provision is matched to need (this can include Elective Home Education of Education Other Than At School packages
  • To search for and identify the right school or education package
  • To train, advise and guide education staff in all settings
  • To be child / young person-centred at all times
To develop a positive working relationship with the child / young person and family
  • To use current research, best practice and national policies and frameworks to guide education advice and interventions
  • To identify and introduce the appropriate interventions to meet the child’s / young person’s needs e.g. literacy packages or assistive technology
  • To regularly review and report on progress regarding the child / young person to the family, professionals and legal team
  • To work continually to achieve optimum educational outcomes that help the child / young person to reach their potential at all stages in their education pathway including Preparation for Adulthood.
Who do we support?

We are able to provide individualised packages of support to children and adults who have a range of needs stemming from and including cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, neurological conditions, hearing impairment, visual impairment, ASD, ADHD, and a wide range of other special educational needs.
